What is the LGBTQ+ friendly badge?

The LGBTQ+ friendly badge is an opt-in profile badge that signals a member is affirming of LGBTQ+ roommates. You turn it on in your profile settings and it appears as a badge on your profile. Other members can filter their searches to show only profiles with the badge. It's optional, you can turn it off anytime, and it doesn't say anything about your own identity, only that you're an affirming person to live with.

What if I'm not out yet? Can I still use Roommates.com safely?

Yes. Your profile only shows what you choose to show. You don't have to indicate sexual orientation or gender identity to use the site or to filter for LGBTQ+ friendly roommates. Many people search without disclosing and only share once they're comfortable with a specific person.

If someone doesn't have the badge, does that mean they're not LGBTQ+ friendly?

Not necessarily. The badge is opt-in, which means plenty of affirming members just haven't turned it on, either because they haven't seen the option yet, they don't think of themselves as needing a label to be welcoming, or they keep their profile minimal in general.
