Once you create a Roommates.com account, you're automatically prompted to create a Profile.
Your Roommates.com profile uses a two-stage setup: a quick initial onboarding step to activate your account, followed by an expanded profile editor where you can add detailed lifestyle preferences at any time.
Quick Initial Setup vs. Expanded Profile

To Create Your Profile:
- If you haven't created a profile yet, you should be automatically redirected to the profile completion page after completing your phone verification.
- If you ended up on a different page, you should see a header at the top reading Heads up: your profile is incomplete. Click Complete my profile now to set up your profile, or click Edit My Profile in the Main Menu to get to the profile completion page.
- Click Upload Photo, select a Photo from your device, and click Open to upload a Profile Pic.
- Click to select the appropriate Gender Identity option.
- Enter your birth date using the drop-downs to select Year, Month, and Day.
- Click Continue to Dashboard to finish.
Once you've created a Basic Profile, you'll be free to perform Searches and purchase a VIP Membership. You can also return to the Profile Editor at any time to expand your profile to get more out of the site.
To Edit/Expand Your Profile:
To add lifestyle details or update your Profile after onboarding:
On a Desktop/Mobile Browsers: Click the Menu Icon (three horizontal lines) or Profile Icon in the top-right corner > select Edit My Profile.
In the iOS App: Tap More in the bottom navigation menu > select Edit My Profile.
- Update your information, preferences, or photos in any category, then click Save and Continue to publish your changes.
To unlock additional features (such as receiving Matches, adding Favorites, and using our Message Center), it is necessary to create at least one Listing. Listings help to communicate what you're looking for in your roommate search to other users of the site. Check out our Create a Listing article for instructions.
