Verifying your phone number is a mandatory step for all Roommates.com accounts. This requirement helps keep our platform secure, deters spam and fraudulent profiles, and ensures a safe environment for everyone searching for a place or a prospective roommate. ANote on Privacy: Your phone number is kept completely private and will never be displayed on your public profile or listing.
Requirements & Supported Numbers:
+1 Country Code Required: Must be a valid North American region phone number.
Supported Types: Standard mobile numbers (SMS text) and landlines (automated phone call).
To Verify Your Phone Number:
Enter Your Phone Number: On the verification prompt, enter your mobile phone number.
Choose Your Verification Method: Select either Text Me a Code or Receive a Call.
Submit Your Code: Locate the code sent via text message or automated call, enter it into the code field, and click Submit Code. (If you didn't receive it, click Resend Code.)
Complete Verification: Once you see the "Thanks for verifying!" screen, click Continue to finish.
If necessary, you can also update your verified phone number at any time.
To Update Your Phone Number:
Log in to your Roommates.com account and navigate to the Verifications page.
Locate the Phone Verified section and click Disconnect phone number.
Re-enter your new phone number and follow the verification steps above to send and submit a fresh code.
If you do not receive your code within a few minutes:
Verify Number Accuracy: Double-check that your phone number was entered correctly without typos.
Check Carrier & App Filters: Ensure your messaging app or service provider isn't automatically blocking unknown numbers or filtering messages into Spam, Business, or Blocked folders.
Check Signal & Device Settings: Turn off Airplane Mode and ensure you are in an area with adequate cellular service.
